Leading the BuildLinks Team
Tom Cavanagh - CEO
Tom Cavanagh brings over 24 years of proven sales, marketing, and general management experience to BuildLinks. Prior to BuildLinks, Cavanagh was responsible for Sales, Business Development and Services at Element K. He was a senior member of the management team that assisted in the sale of the company to NIIT, a global learning solutions provider. Prior to Element K, Tom was the CEO of net32, a supply chain technology company focused on procurement efficiencies. Cavanagh raised approximately $15 million in venture capital, built a strong senior management team and achieved significant double-digit revenue growth quarter over quarter through creative sales and marketing. Prior to net32, Cavanagh spent 16 years with Eastman Kodak where he held a variety of positions of increasing responsibility, including Region Director, Regional Sales Manager, District Manager, Manager of Marketing Analysis and Performance and Brand Manager. As a Region Director, Cavanagh had responsibility for a $55 million in revenue, 325-person operation. On three separate occasions, during his career at Kodak, he finished number one amongst his peers in a $2 billion division. He was one of ten individuals selected out of ten thousand employees to work on a worldwide merger team. Cavanagh has a BS in Economics from Niagara University and an MBA from Duke University.
Steve Rakes - CFO
Mr. Rakes is an experienced finance executive with full cycle venture capital experience. In addition to serving as CFO at BuildLinks, Inc., Mr. Rakes is a General Partner at Southeast Interactive Technology Funds and currently serves on the boards of the Academy Funds and BuildLinks, Inc., and is a board observer at Allconnect, Inc., Arsenal Digital Solutions and VisionAir, Inc. Mr. Rakes also serves as the Fund's Chief Operating and Financial Officer overseeing the day to day investment operations and financing of the General Partner and Management Company. Previously, Mr. Rakes was a Manager in Ernst & Young, LLP's Financial Services Practice specializing in working with investment and insurance companies. While at Ernst & Young, Mr. Rakes worked with a number of public companies and supervised multiple securities offering engagements. Prior to being with Ernst & Young, Mr. Rakes was the Controller of Sloan Financial Group, Inc., a diversified investment management firm with over $2.2 billion under management. Prior to working at Sloan Financial Group, Inc., Mr. Rakes was a staff accountant at Ernst & Young, LLP. Mr. Rakes holds a B.A. in English and Radio and Television Production and a Masters in Accounting from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Nicole Benedict - Vice President of Product Management
Ms. Benedict leads product strategy for all builder and homebuyer-focused solutions. Benedict brings more than 10 years of product management, product marketing, data warehousing and consumer brand management experience to BuildLinks. Prior to joining BuildLinks, Benedict was the Director of Product Management for Motricity, a mobile content solutions provider. At Motricity, Benedict led all product strategy for Motricity's consumer solutions product platform, powering such brands as MTV, BET, Palm, Ask Jeeves, Universal Music and Warner Music Group. Previous to Motricity, Benedict held senior product management and marketing positions at leading online art retailer Art.com, consumer data aggregator Plurimus, and the online marketing and advertising technology company, Engage. Early in her career, Benedict worked in new product engineering for Invensys Plc where she introduced many new products to the energy management industry. Benedict holds a bachelor of science degree in Industrial Engineering from Dalhousie University in Nova Scotia, Canada and an MBA from the Kenan-Flager Business School at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
